Susan G. - Run Long Run Strong Endurance Coaching

Susan G.

Tell us a little about yourself (kids, married, job)?
I have been married for almost 15 years to Ken AKA “Kenny G”. We have 2 dogs. We named our American Bulldog, Gozer the Gozarian since we love the movie Ghostbusters. Our second dog is a Corgi mix, named Winnie. I work as an Art Director in advertising and get paid to do creative stuff! I always knew I wanted to be an artist of some kind. Did a lot of drawing as a kid. Went to college to study graphic design, so here I am!

When and why did you start running?
I think I started running around 2012 if not earlier. The 2000’s are all a blur to me! I think I just wanted a challenge and doing a half marathon was a big deal.

What keeps you motivated to train?
Knowing other people who have completed the distance that I want to do and having them share their experience is invaluable. I am astonished as to what a human being can accomplish (ie 100Miler runners!)

What are your hobbies outside of running?
I have done triathlons. I enjoy swimming and occasionally bike riding. I also ride horses and have done that since 1995.

What is your favorite race?
I think my favorite race was my first marathon in 2015 in Eugene, OR with friends and family supporting me and my husband (who also did the marathon).

What is your bucket list event?
Bucket list right now is definitely Brazos Bend 50 Miler next April 2022.

What is the funniest thing to happen to you during a race?
Having my family drive along the marathon route in their grandma’s Cadillac screaming and hollering!

What is your proudest race moment?
Finishing my first Ultra 54k in Jan 2020 for my 45th Birthday. It was a hilly course, but beautiful.

What is the one thing you wish you knew when you first started running?
Do the footwork and it’ll all work out.

What is your best piece of advice for new runners?
Trust your training and your Coach.
