Donna P.

Tell us a little about yourself (kids, married, job)?
I’m from Philly originally and have lived in Central, OH since 1983. I work for a major insurance company, Mom to 3 cats and a dog.

When and why did you start running?
I starting walking to train for my first half marathon October 2012 at the encouragement of a friend who knew I had walked a full marathon as a bucket list item 12 years prior. The feeling at the finish has had me chasing more goals as a run/walker.

What keeps you motivated to train?
I love chasing the carrot, the bling that represents what I’m able to accomplish when I push myself past my self-perceived boundaries.

What are your hobbies outside of running?
I love to read and learn whether by books (it must be a physical book,) magazines, newsletters…

What is your favorite race?
The New York City Marathon stands out as one of my favorites. To ride the subway to the ferry to the bus to the start line and still surpass my expectation will always be special to me.

What is your bucket list event?
Just one?! Currently it’s the Oregon Coast 20 miler. I would also love to run Big Sur one day.

What is the funniest thing to happen to you during a race?
Still waiting for that moment.

What is your proudest race moment?
Pushing myself to be on my feet for 21.5 hours to complete my first 50 miler.

What is the one thing you wish you knew when you first started running?
How helpful it is to have the right socks, shoes, clothing and people to train with on a regular basis.

What is your best piece of advice for new runners?
Pursue your goals. Regardless of what happens during your goal race, the people you’ll meet, the traveling you’ll do, and what you learn about yourself is worth every ache, pain and weather challenge.
