Run Long ~ Run Strong: How old are you?
Stefan Rodriguez: I am 45 years old.
RLRS: Tell us a little about yourself (kids, married, job)?
SR: I am happily married to Jill, with two boys (Maddox, 12 and Holden, 9). I work as a transmission lineman for Eversource Energy.
RLRS: When and why did you start running?
SR: I started running in 2014 when a friend asked me to do a Warrior Dash 5k. I’ve been hooked ever since.
RLRS: What keeps you motivated to train?
SR: Two things keep me motivated. One, I’m super competitive! And two, the people I run with (I mostly run with the CT Trailmixers and it’s like having a second family).
RLRS: What are your hobbies outside of running?
SR: I’m kind of a geek. I have a 3-D printer, laser cutter/engraver and a CNC router. I also like to make awards for local races.
RLRS: What is your favorite race?
SR: I loved the Zion 50k. It was the first destination race I did the with CT Trailmixers. The course was made of Jeep roads and single track, and the views were amazing.
RLRS: What is your bucket list event?
SR: The Empire State Building Run Up. It’s a race to the top of the Empire State Building. 86 flights, 1576 stairs. I’ve tried the lottery for three years.
RLRS: What is the funniest thing to happen to you during a race?
SR: Nothing that I can think of…yet LOL
RLRS: What is your proudest race moment?
SR: Qualifying for Boston at Sugarloaf Marathon in Maine, with no road training.
RLRS: What is the one thing you wish you knew when you first started running?
SR: Listen to your body. When it hurts, take care of it so it doesn’t turn into a bigger problem.
RLRS: What is your best piece of advice for new runners?
SR: Be patient and increase your mileage over a long period of time.
Coach’s note: Stefan’s spotlight was published in early April 2019, and he has since finished the Boston Marathon in a time of 3:36. We congratulate him on his awesome achievement.
